Colonel John R. Boyd (1927-1997)

A United States Air Force fighter pilot and Pentagon consultant of the late 20th century, whose theories have been highly influential in the military, sports, business, and litigation.

Boyd inspired the Lightweight Fighter programme (LWF) that produced the successful General Dynamics F-16 Fighting Falcon and McDonnell Douglas F/A-18 Hornet.

Boyd participated in World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. He had a variety of nicknames, including Forty Second Boyd, Genghis John, The Mad Major, and The Ghetto Colonel.
