“PRONE to sniffles? Some vitamin D might help. More than 3 million people in the UK would avoid having colds and flu every year if they took vitamin D supplements. That’s according to an analysis of data from nearly 11,000 people.
The analysis used data from 25 clinical trials and found that vitamin D supplements can cut the proportion of people getting respiratory infections by 12 per cent (Martineau et al., 2017).
The study’s authors say the results strengthen the case for fortifying foods in the UK with vitamin D.
Public Health England already recommends that people consider taking vitamin D during the autumn and winter to protect musculoskeletal health.” (New Scientist, 2017, p.20).
