New TV Documentary ‘The Selection: Special Operations Experiment’

Taking part in military-style fitness and TV programmes is all the rage at the moment.

Just started showing here in Australia on Tuesday nights is a new TV programme ‘The Selection’ – or The Selection: Special Operations Experiment to give the full title – which is a reality documentary taking 30 men and women with no military background through the most intense physical and mental challenge of their lives patterned after US Special Forces Selection.

The programme outline states: “What happens when you take 30 athletes from around the country and put them through special forces training? That’s what A&E’s History Channel expects to find out with The Selection, a new documentary social experiment. From obstacle course racing professionals to football players to parkour runners, the show will see who has what it takes to pass the most difficult challenge of their lives without giving up or without being performance-dropped.”

First aired in the US in December 2016, the process is largely modelled after the US Navy SEALs selection process – you can find an outline here.

There are eight episodes to watch, and witness the dwindling number of participants as they juggle the physical and emotional rollercoaster that is SOF training.

You can find further information from the History Channel.
