Introduction

Pre-Royal Military Academy Sandhurst Phase A (Pre-RMAS Phase A) prepares international students for the challenges they will face as officer cadets at Royal Military Academy Sandhurst.

Pre-RMAS Phase B is a mandatory course for all international cadets entering the Regular Commissioning Course at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst.

Location and Delivery

Phase A and B are delivered by the Defence Engagement School, part of the Defence Academy of the United Kingdom, located in Shrivenham.

Phase A

Duration

10 weeks, delivered three times per year, starting in February, May, and September.

Who is the Course For?

The course is ideal for international students who will attend the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, but first require additional English language training, or to develop your basic military discipline and ethos.

What You Will Learn

Pre-RMAS Phase A develops the English language skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing military and general English to STANAG Level 2.

You will develop:

• Assimilation into the British military through drill, leadership development, physical fitness, navigation training and decision-making exercise; and
• A wider understanding of military and British culture through lessons and cultural trip.

• Pre-RMAS Phase A is an excellent opportunity for you to gain insight into the British military prior to attending Royal Military Academy Sandhurst.
• Students who are proficient in English but have no military experience will benefit immensely from this course.

Entry Requirements

• International.
• Pre-RMAS Phase A is open to internationals who have been offered a place at Royal Military Academy Sandhurst.
• Before you attend, participants are expected to have IELTS 4.5 or equivalent.

How the Course will be Taught

• Face-to-face/ Residential.

How you will be Assessed

• Students are assessed on completion of Phase A using the NATO STANAG 6001 language proficiency framework.

Phase B

Duration

3 weeks, delivered three times per year in April, August, and November.

Who is the Course For?

The course is for international students who will attend the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst.

• Introduction to the British Army;
• Physical Training;
• Drill;
• Navigation;
• Leadership; and
• Decision making.

• Pre-RMAS Phase B prepares cadets for the challenges they will face at Sandhurst in a safe, supportive environment.
• It provides them with the opportunity to develop military skills and familiarise themselves with the use of the English language in a military setting.
