Mind, Body, and Soul: Health Tips for Men

Introduction

Every guy wants to look and feel his best, but life can get on top of you from time to time, and it is not always easy to look after yourself properly. Whether it is a crazy work schedule, dealing with personal struggles, or you have just formed bad habits generally, it can be a challenge to turn things around and get back on track.

Below are some suggestions to help you live a happy, healthy life all around.

Eat Well

A good place to start if you are not feeling great about your health is looking at your diet, as it is important to eat nutritious meals. It is recommended that men consume (on average) 2,500 calories a day and if you are going over that, this could be why you are feeling sluggish and unhealthy. Whole grains, lentils, fruits, and vegetables are all excellent for heart health, as well as helping you get a dose of vitamins and minerals every day. Exercise

The next obvious place to review if you are worried about your health is your exercise routine. It is recommended to exercise on a regular basis, even if it is something as gentle as a 20-minute walk around the block. While cardio exercise is a must, do not forget to focus on muscle-strengthening exercises also. This will help to keep your muscles healthy and you at your fittest. You can do this at home by investing in some weights, or there will be plenty of equipment you can use at your local gym. If you want to get the most out of your workout, remember to eat the right things before and after as well.

Make Time for Loved Ones

The points above are great for your body, but you also need to take care of your mental well-being. Spending time with friends and family is a good way to blow off some steam, ask for advice about problems, and/or just have a great time. Not only will this help to boost your mood, but it will strengthen these all-important relationships, and your efforts will be appreciated.

Make Time for You

While spending time with your nearest and dearest is important, you should not feel pressured to give up all of your time for others. If you are craving some alone time to relax and enjoy some peace, you should make that happen. Everybody needs time to themselves to reset or to process things that they might be dealing with, and putting yourself first on these occasions is necessary. Whether you want to play some video games, watch a movie, go for a run, or just take a nap – go for it.

Counselling

Historically there has been this toxic ideology that men should not talk about their feelings, but bottling things up inside is not helpful. Everybody goes through hard times in life, and speaking to a counsellor might help you to cope with some of those overwhelming feelings (in a healthy way), especially if, for whatever reason, you feel like you can not talk to friends or family about what you are going through. Even then, talking to someone who is not biased to your situation could help you gain some clarity and find a resolution to your issue.
