In 2015, the Royal Marines had three Mountain Leader (ML) courses on offer:
- Mountain Leader Class 3 (ML3).
- Mountain Leader Class 2 (ML2).
- Mountain Leader Officer (MLO).
All ranks (both officers and Marines) attend the same selection course, with the average pass rate across all three courses being 67% between 2008 and 2014.
The average pass rate for the ML2, during the same period, was 51%.
The first ML3 was in 2012. It was introduced following the transformation from the Reconnaissance Operator (RO) course additional qualification. The average pass rate for the ML3, between 2012 and 2013, was 83%. There was no ML3 course in 2014 due to a nil requirment.
