A worker on a zero hours contract has received £19,500 compensation after winning a claim for sexual harassment.
Hotel worker Ms Southern claimed she had been sexually harassed for a long period by her bar manager, but delayed raising a grievance because she was worried her shift hours might be dropped.
The tribunal ruled that because Ms Southern was young (22) and had a history of mental health issues, she should receive a large injury to feelings award.
“Employers should review shift allocations to ensure there is no detrimental treatment for zero-hours workers, especially in sectors where shift patterns are central to the employment relationship,” says Vanessa James, a partner at SA Law.
