With recent obesity statistics coming to light, the REPs level 2 qualification (Physical Activity for Children) is of the upmost importance. Data from the NHS, as part of its annual child measurement programme, has revealed that between 2006 and 2012 there were seven children who weighed over 20 stone.

Established in 2006, the National Child Measurement Programme measures the height and weight of children in reception and year six annually.  Available under Freedom of Information laws, OpenWorld News discovered the data revealing one boy aged just 11 years old standing at 1.32m (4ft 4in) weighing 147kg (23st 1lb). 

As REPs members it crucial to stress the immense health and economic implications of this data and to highlight the need for accessible, practical education and support for overweight children and their families.
