  • Royal Navy and Royal Marine photographers are career managed together as a single branch.
  • The Royal Navy has the only photographer branch.
  • Royal Marine personnel must transfer over to the Royal Navy prior to commencing a photographer career course.
  • Personnel cannot join the Royal Navy as a photographer. They must join in different specialisations and then have the opportunity to apply to the role of photographer later in their career.
  • Ranks for photographers include Able Rating (OR-2), Leading Hand (OR-4), Petty Officer (OR-6), Chief Petty Officer (OR-7), and Warrant Officer 1 (OR-9).
  • The photographer branch has approximately 40 personnel, with most being in the rank of Leading Hand or Petty Officer.
