According to research, interval walking can lower the risk of lifestyle-related diseases in middle-aged and elderly people.
Led by researchers at Japan’s Shinshu University, the study found that participants who followed an interval walking training plan – walking at 70% of their maximum capacity for 3 minutes, then at 40% for the next three, continuing for five or more sets over a five month period – showed a 14% increase in VO2 peak and a 17% lower risk of lifestyle-related diseases.
