Overview

The purpose of this course is to develop the behavioural skills required by instructors to facilitate maximum learning by students in a modern learning environment.  Those instructors who are employed or about to be employed in formal training to Phase 3 personnel should apply for the Defence Instructional Techniques (DIT) course.

Army, and affiliated, students should take note of the Army Instructor Capability programme.

Suitable For

This course is for instructors involved in Phase 1 or 2 training to ensure they are properly trained to carry out their instructor and supervisory care responsibilities. Personnel in ARTD units should apply direct to ASLS. All RAF and Army personnel serving in Non-ARTD units are to apply to DCTS. This includes DCAE, DCEME, DCCIS, DCI, RCDM/DDA. All RN personnel are to apply via the RN Course Booking Cell at HMS Collingwood. All personnel (including RN, RAF) serving in ARTD units are to apply for the ARTD Staff Leadership School (ASLS) course.

Course Aim

The first five days, which match the Defence Instructional Techniques course, deliver the hard instructional skill sets required by all instructors. These skills are then contextualised and integrated in a further eight days of training on softer skills.

Applications should be made to DCTS Course Booking Cell. Courses are loaded 8 weeks prior to their start date. Applications received after the cut-off date are automatically placed on a reserve list.
