Who Do They Work For?
The specialist job falls under the remit of the Staff and Personnel Support (SPS) branch of the Adjutant General’s Corps (AGC), British Army.
Eligibility Criteria
- Must be at least a Corporal.
- Age 25 or older.

Skills
“You have to be good listener and empathetic. Applicants must have must have Army experience in the first instance and be at least a corporal. This is important as you will be allowed into people’s lives and what are some very difficult situations.” (Kastein, 2021, p.13).
Training
Eight month specialist Welfare Worker Course at the Defence College of Logistics, Policing and Administration (DCLPA), which includes:
- Residential phase at DCLPA Worthy Down; and
- Supervised placement in an Army Welfare Service team.
Postings
Postings are available in UK garrisons as well as overseas, for example Brunei.
